Don't miss the swingin' sounds of the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra this Sunday. October 23rd, at Redding's historic Cascade Theatre!

In the history of the Big Band era, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra is recognized as one of the best all-around big bands of them all. It could swing with the best of them, and no other band could come close to Tommy’s when it came to playing ballads. Tommy Dorsey, “The Sentimental Gentleman of Swing,” was a master at creating warm, sentimental, and always musical moods – always at the perfect tempo. Tommy sustained these moods through the impeccable arrangements of the likes of Paul Weston, Axel Stordahl and Sy Oliver, and he showcased singers who could project them brilliantly. One of those singers was Frank Sinatra, whose career blossomed with Tommy’s

Now under the direction of Nick Hilscher, The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra is still traveling throughout the country keeping alive the familiar Dorsey tunes of the ‘40s swing era while embracing the spectrum of popular music from Dixieland, rhythm and blues and intricate ballads to jazz and contemporary tunes.

The Chorus is preparing for two Glenbrooke performances, one on May 28th and one on June 25th, featuring patriotic themes. We will celebrate the sacrifices of the brave men and women who risked everything they had for our freedom.

Think you’re too old to sing?

Estelle Reiner, the wife of actor-director Carl Reiner and mother of actor-director Rob Reiner was 65 when she began a career as a jazz singer. Over the next 28 years, she recorded seven albums and performed in clubs in New York and Los Angeles

Don’t read music?

Many of our chorus members don’t read music. In fact, many have never sung with a chorus or choir before. We provide CDs of the music specifically created for each part (Alto, Soprano, Tenor and Bass), so that our members can learn and memorize their timing and harmonies. Then Alex is able to concentrate the rehearsals on singing techniques, breath, expression, and blending the voices.

Why join the Chorus?

More than 42 million Americans sing in choruses. It’s a great way to make some new friends and enjoy the company of “old” ones. Everyone is friendly and supportive, and we are all there to have fun doing what we love. It puts you in a good mood regardless of whatever else is going on in your life. It’s a chance to learn from a critically acclaimed conductor with years of experience.

We welcome new members. There is truly something here for all interests and abilities, from the variety of music we sing to the opportunities for those who want do solos as well as those who just love to be a part of the chorus.

Come to the Arbour Lodge any Tuesday at 7:00PM to see what it's all about.
