Wonderful Evening – Hats off to MINGLES

Thanks to the MINGLES Steering Committee* for putting together a great neighborhood potluck!

There were approximately 70 people and the food was tasty, plentiful and diverse. The dessert table looked like something out of a magazine. Sorry, I was enjoying myself so much I forgot to get any pictures.

The competition between the tables heated up for a fun trivia challenge with the winners enjoying boxes of candy! One of the best things observed was neighbors sitting around the fireplace in the Lodge just visiting after the potluck. That's what it is all about - taking advantage of opportunities to get to know neighbors better, have fun and enjoy living in Glenbrooke.

As you know, it doesn't happen by itself. If you have ideas or suggestions for events, want to provide feedback, volunteer to help with some of these events, please contact one of the hard-working women of the MINGLES Steering Committee (they are all listed in the Resident Directory).

Holiday Party was Rocking Friday Night

The Glenbrooke Association's Jingle Bell Rock Holiday Dinner Dance Friday was very enjoyable. It is always a plus when the caterer supplies the china and silverware as well as having plenty of great food. Frankie and the Fablestones made their fourth visit to Glenbrooke and were as well received as the first three times.

There were two complaints that I heard. One was that for those that don't dance , the music was too loud to hold a conversation with the person sitting next to you at the tables. Some people wandered out to the fireplace area while others migrated to the card room. With the ballroom doors opened, the music was just the right volume to hold conversations AND enjoy the music.

The second compliant was the evening was over way too soon!

TONIGHT: Jingle Bell Rock Holiday Dinner Dance

Friday, December 9th is the date for the Glenbrooke Association's Jingle Bell Rock Holiday Dinner Dance. I hope you got your tickets as Frankie and the Fablestones will be rocking the Arbour Lodge from 6:00 to 9:00PM with Christmas favorites and Do-wop, Motown, 50s and 60s hits. We had the pleasure of seeing this band perform for a Casa Garden Luncheon and it was almost impossible not to tap your foot - they are that engaging!

In addition to the entertainment, there will be Appetizers of focaccia bread, baked brie, and cucumber cups with shrimp. Dinner will consist of Caesar salad, raspberry salad, tomato & cucumber salad, roasted veggies, fresh fruit, garlic mashed potatoes, pesto stuffed chicken with roasted red pepper sauce, rosemary pork tenderloin with orange sauce, tri tip with carver, assorted breads, cream puffs and fruit cake. The cost is $35 per person but tickets are sold out.

If you would like to attend but do not have a ticket, be sure to add your name to the wait listed.

Elk Grove’s Annual Dicken’s Street Faire

The Old Town Dicken's Faire is the traditional start of the Elk Grove Yuletide Season with entertainers and merchants appearing in mid-19th century costumes. Stroll through Old Town and explore local shops, craft and vendor booths. dine alfresco and mingle with friends and neighbors. It is this Saturday so head over (with any remaining company) to Historic Old Town on November 26, 2011.

A Pancake breakfast with Santa kicks off the events starting at 8:00AM at the Historic Grange Hall, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd. There will be two stages of entertainment, a snow park, carriage rides, petting zoo, pony rides and did we mention the unique shopping and vendors?

The Parade of Lights begins at 6:00 PM traveling from Derr Street to Adams Street) followed by the Tree Lighting Ceremony.

Holiday Craft and Gift Fair at Arbour Lodge

Glenbrooke Community association is hosting a Holiday Craft & Gift Fair on Saturday, November 5, 2011. There will be a continental breakfast catered by Randy Peters. The fun starts at 9 AM and goes until noon in the Arbour Lodge.

There will be a variety of vendors (list available at Arbour Lodge) and lots of unique items to get you in the Holiday Shopping mood. So grab your friends and neighbors and head over to the clubhouse and check out what is the hottest gifts this year. For more information call the office at 714-1010.

Veterans Day Dance

Calling all dancers and veterans. Glenbrooke will be hosting a Veterans Day Dance on Thursday, November 10, 2011 beginning at 5:30PM. The Arbour Lodge will turn into a unofficial USO club for this dance with the Frank Oddo Band. Cost is $12.00 per person but veterans get in free.

There will be appetizers and refreshments to keep your energy up for the dancing. Sign up at the Activities Desk.

Halloween Dinner and Costume Party

On Friday, October 28th dress up in your Halloween Costume and come to the arbour Lodge for the Annual Sp B00-ghetti dinner. There will be a gift card for the best costume. This event is so popular it sells out every year. Cost is $ 15.00 per person. The fun starts at 6:00PM and the dinner will be catered by Devinci's.

If you still don't have tickets and want them, post your need here or make sure you get on the wait list at the office. Often people buy tickets ahead of time and then something comes up that prevents them from going.

Walking Sticks Plan Walk in EG Park

Sacramento Walking Sticks has their eye on Elk Grove for another fun walk. All are welcome to participate. Starting time is dawn to dusk beginning at Starbucks, 8868 Bond Road, Elk Grove, CA . Both routes include residential neighborhoods. They start in a busy part of town where a variety of restaurants are located. Within a very short walking distance, you will be at Elk Grove Regional Park.

Once inside the Park, you will have access to restrooms, water fountains, a doggie park, and a very nice decomposed granite walking path. Among other things you see in the Park are, The Elk Grove Historical Society Hotel & Stage Stop Museum (free tours the first Saturday of each month, 10:00 to 4:00 p.m.), the San Joaquin Justice Court, Pirate Island, Strauss Island (location of the annual Strauss Festival), Elk Grove Lake, and big, beautiful Oak trees.

If you are on the 10K walk, you will get a chance to view a ranch with a field for horses located right in the middle of a residential area! The walk continues on to historical "Old Town" Elk Grove where you will pass by the Elk Grove United Methodist Church (built in 1922), another building that at one time housed a Sacramento County Municipal Court, the Union Pacific Railroad tracks, antique stores, gift shops, bars, and restaurants.

On your way back to the start ing place, you will go by the Elk Grove Fire Department and fast-food utopia.

oktoberfest Luncheon Saturday

Glenbrooke's Oktoberfest Luncheon is this Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the Arbour Lodge from noon to 1:30PM. Cost is only $12 and you will be able to have your fill of bratwurst, German potato salad, chicken divan and German chocolate cake.

Musical entertainment will be provided by an accordion player playing authentic German tunes.

Wilton Chili Cook off and Classic Car show

Great family event next Saturday, September 17, 2011 in Wilton. The 11th annual Wilton Firefighter's Association Chili Cook-off will be held from 10:30 - 4:30 PM. Admission is FREE and includes Classic Car Sho w. The event will be held at Fog Willow Farms, 11011 Cecatra Road in Eilton (corner of Green and Wilton Roads).

There will be raffles & a silent Auction in addition to the Chili tasting. Souvenir T-shirts, Hot BBQ Lunches, Live Music, Carnival games, Pony and Hay rides, a kids play zone, craft booths, face painting and more! What a great event for the entire family.
