Bringing Neighbors Together

Flooding on Peak Forest

We received a phone call from our neighbor to look out into the street in front of our house.     The street was flooded and at least initially,  the water was about a foot up into our lawn.   It seems one of the storm drains was blocked.  Several calls to the city and the stopping of the rain resulted in the water going down.      This picture was taken about 8:30 Pm on Monday, May 6th.

Doesn't take much to cause excitement in a retirement community!

  1. Del Webb had water above the curb in some areas. Leaves and debris probably needed to be swept away from drain. Where was that downpour two months ago???

  2. You can tell how high this water was (even after it was going down some) by looking at the mailbox and the water up the driveway across the street.

  3. Darcie: We had 1 2/3 " of rain in my rain gauge in about an hour. Perhaps the system was overwhelmed by the deluge. Water was going over the edge of our gutters during the heavy part of the storm .

  4. We were out driving in it . The windshield wipers couldn't keep up with the water! We saw the deep water on Peak Forest as we were dropping off some residents there. Reminded us of rain storms in L.A. County. Yes, it does rain there every few years!! The drainage there is not good in the older areas. I can remember having to wear rain boots ( which I had brought from the Old Country ) in order to get across the street. There were a lot of huge floods in the 1960's. God, I am getting old!

  5. Our back yard patio flooded in one area....Frank went out front in that downpour and discovered the drain on our lawn was plugged. The grass grew over it and our gardners never attempted to clear it I guess. Frank went out there in the morning and cut the grass away.
