Bringing Neighbors Together

This weekend: Historic Isleton Breathes New Life into its Cajun Festival

Do you like Carnival Rides, Crawdads and Cajun Food, Arts and Crafts vendors, live music and street vendors?  Check out the Isleton Cajun Festival  Saturday June 18th from 10 AM to 10Pm and Sunday the 19th from 10 AM to 6 PM.   General Admission is $5.00 with children under 12 admitted free.

For more than 20 years, the town of Isleton CA hosted a festival over Fathers’ Day Weekend that brought as many as 100,000 to this quiet setting on the Sacramento River Delta; many were saddened to learn that the old Isleton Crawdad Festival was sold to R-Wild Horse Ranch in 2008.But now, the quaint little community of Isleton is bringing back the crawdads and music for their newly-dubbed Isleton Cajun Festival on Saturday and Sunday, June 18 and 19.  Historic Main Street will host a plethora of vendors of food and fancies, and three stages will present 20 bands of Zydeco, Cajun and Southern blues including Mark St. Mary, Flambeau, the Bob Woods Band, and others.  A carnival for the kids, more crawdads, beans and rice, and jambalaya than you can shake a voodoo stick at, and the warm welcome of a true Delta community is enough to get anyone ready for dancing in the streets!

LES BON TEMPS ARE SET TO ROLL AT ISLETON’S CAJUN FESTIVAL

Isleton’s new Cajun Festival, set for Fathers’ Day Weekend, is hosting some of the most highly-regarded Zydeco, Cajun and Southern Blues bands on June 18 and 19 this year, announced Chamber of Commerce President Jean Yokotobi.  “We’ve selected the most exciting, energy-filled music to get our new festival off to a great start, and we are thrilled to present both rising and established stars for festival-goers to enjoy.”

The Golden Spike Dixieland band, comprised of local Trilogy musicians headed by Jim Lucas will present an evening of Dixieland for a “Delta locals only” preview on Friday evening, June 17th, and there will be three stages of live music on Saturday and Sunday, starting at 10 AM with a “jazz march” led by Rhythmtown Jive.

The Icehouse stage will feature blues with a southern touch, with the Bob Woods Band, Alvon Johnson, and The Hucklebucks along with Rhythmtown Jive.  The Gazebo and North stages will have Cajun and Zydeco music from the Zydeco Flames, Mark St. Mary, Andre Thierry and Zydeco Magic, Tom Rigby & Flambeau, Miracle Mule, Zydeco on our Minds, the Bayou Band, and the Red Dirt Band.  Linda Francis, a well-known Zydeco and Cajun dance teacher, will be teaching line dancing between sets on the Gazebo stage each day, so come learn how it’s done “down on the bayou” for even more fun.

There will also be family fun in abundance, from carnival rides to clown shows, facepainting, and balloon animals made just for you.  Ravioli the Clown and his wife Sparkles will be providing fun shows for children several times during the day, as well as mini-shows and general silliness throughout the festival, and will also provide face-painting (done by local teens in various locations around the site.)  "We are hoping that lots of families will attend the new festival, as we've focused on making the event one that will welcome folks who want to enjoy a day with their children as well as lovers of crawdads and great music," said Yokotobi.

“Music is the heart and soul of the Festival,” she continued.  “It’s going to be a weekend of great music and dancing, with fresh crawdads and lots of Cajun food, a wonderful assortment of vendors, and a carnival and street entertainers for families.  With this festival, we’re putting Isleton back on the map!”
