Friends of Maderia Prevail over Wal-Mart in Court Decision
The Friends of Madeira (which include some Glenbrooke residents) challenged the City of Elk Grove's Planning Commission assertion that plans for a Wal-Mart store on Bruceville and Poppy Ridge were substantially the same as a Target store previously approved.
The court agreed with residents that the former city planning director erred in approving the Walmart without public hearings or environmental review.
A Ruling filed April 12, 2011, by Judge Lloyd G. Connelly of the Superior Court of California, County of Sacramento, granted the petition in part.
“A peremptory writ of mandate shall issue from this court requiring the City to set aside the substantial conformance determination issued by the planning director on March 26, 2009, to formally notify Wal-Mart of the requirement to submit an application for a new or modified conditional use permit to develop a Wall-Mart store in the Vineyard at Madeira shopping center, and to conduct proceedings on such application if and when it is submitted by Wal-Mart. In all other respects, the petition is denied."

Does anybody know if WalMart is still interested? If they are going to start the process all over, or if maybe they have lost interest and may sell to somebody else? Just wondering.
According to the Sac Bee article
"Wal-Mart spokeswoman Tiffany Moffatt said the chain will pursue the project. "Numerous Elk Grove residents have told us that they need this new store and look forward to the benefits that it can bring to the community, including the opportunity to save on affordable food," she said.
