Bringing Neighbors Together

Next Three Plays Picked by Theater Goers

Over 50 people attended the brief theatergoers meeting will be held Sunday April 3,2011 at Arbour Lodge.

Three plays were chosen by the committee and presented to the group.   The first, Dearly Departed, will be performed on May 22 at 2:00PM at the Chautauqua Playhouse in Carmichael.  There were limited tickets (due to the small size of the theater) and so a lottery was held for the available tickets.  Approximately 12 people were put on the waitlist.

The second selection will be The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas performed by Runaway Stage Productions.  This play is also now waitlisted.

The third selection was THE MUSICAL COMEDY MURDERS OF 1940.  This selection was a Glenbrooke buy-out and will include after play reception with the actors.  Cost is $20.00 per ticket.  Contact Terri Bacon for ticket information.

A reminder  if you were at the meeting and signed up for the May or July plays, the money is due by April 17th.  You can put a check in the lock box on  Terri's  front porch .  The money for the August play is due by June 1st.

DEARLY DEPARTED – From the moment Bud Turpin keels over at the breakfast table right onthrough his burial in the “Gentleman Farmer” coffin, Dearly Departed makes it clear that there’s more toliving and dying in the Bible Belt than you might have imagined. His eccentric family has a funeral toplan and – between the feuds, marital flings, and Macaroni and Ham Loaf Surprise - it may escalate intoa multiple coffin memorial service. By the time the Turpins sort through the problems they’ve learned thatcoping with life’s losses can be drop dead funny. $15.00

THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS –Stomp your feet and clap your hands for this1978 Tony Award nominee for best musical. It isunder the proprietorship of Miss Mona Stangley, having been left to her by the original owner. While takingcare of her girls, she is also on good terms with the local sheriff. When a crusading television reporterdecides to make the illegal activity an issue, political ramifications may cause the place to be closed down.$18.00

THE MUSICAL COMEDY MURDERS OF 1940
The creative team responsible for a recent Broadway flop ( in which three chorus girls were murderedby the mysterious” Stage Door Slasher”) assembles at a Westchester estate for a backer’s audition oftheir new show. The house is replete with sliding panels, secret passageways and a German maid who isapparently four different people – all of which figure diabolically in the comic mayhem which follows whenthe infamous “Slasher” makes his reappearance again and again. As the composer, lyricist, actors anddirector prepare their performance, and a blizzard cuts off any possible retreat, bodies start to drop in plainsight, knives spring out of nowhere, masked figures drag their victims behind swiveling bookcases, andaccusing fingers point in all directions. $20.00
Sutter Street Theatre – Folsom (We have seen several plays here: And Then There Were None, and PlaidTidings)
