  1. There's Harvey....he was in front of our house last night about 11, heading around the corner to Chatsworth to entertain Becky.

  2. It was actually Jay, my husband, who took the photos. and if Harvey gets anywhere close to Becky (my dog for anybody who doesn't know) she will have him eaten in a flash! :-)
Harry was not happy to have his/her (Harriet if it is her) photo taken and was annoyed when we drove to another light pole to continue taking photos.
Ollie (Olivia if her) just didn't want Becky to jump out the window she was hanging out.
And all the rabbits are so used to our car now they hardly even hop off.
I guess they will all have to find new homes when humans start to live in Village 4.

  3. I believe that Ollie is a burrowing owl. We saw him in Village 4, too. They're active in the daytime and spend time mainly on the ground. I thought he had been killed. We saw what looked like an owl leg bone and feathers near his haunt. Haven't seen him since late December. When was this photo taken?

    • I think this picture of Olie the owl was taken December 1 but we have seen him many times since then but not real recently. I thought I saw a smaller one standing in his gutter drain. It was either his mate or one of the babies.

  4. Harvey and his friends are out doing a payback for disturbing their habitat by building homes there. We had to slow down for three coming home Sat. evening and yesterday there were two hopping from yard to yard on our street. They don't seem to scare easily...in fact they just look at you like they're daring you to hit them - ----see you in court! Maybe it's time to bring in the coyotes and bobcats for a meal!

Hope people aren't putting food out for them.

  5. I thought we we supposed to feed them.

  6. Jay...... you keep this up and I'm turning the volumn up on my Elton John & Sheryl Crow music and drown out that classical music. Moving the speakers to the patio and the war is "on".

On a more serious note...I have seen a couple that have been hit by cars close by. Also have noticed bark out on the sidewalks, must be the rabbits. Ever hear of anyone making jackrabbit stew? ??roadkill stew? Maybe something new for the next Potluck!!!!

  7. JackRabbit Stew

Cut into pieces, including neck, head (eyes being bored out), lungs, liver and heart; place these pieces in an earthen or lined dish, add one onion (sliced), lemon (sliced), one teaspoonful of whole pepper, two bayberry leaves, twelve cloves, a little parsley and salt, and good wine vinegar, sufficient to cover pieces, and allow it to stand in a cool place for twenty-four hours. When ready for use place in a lined pot, a small piece of butter, one sliced onion, two bayberry leaves, dessert-spoonful of whole pepp0er, eight cloves, wineglassful of wine vinegar, a pint of beef broth (stock), cover, put on the fire and allow it to simmer till soft. Meanwhile put in a saucepan a piece of butter the size of a walnut, sprinkle in two tablespoonsful of flour, and roast golden brown; then add, under steady stirring of the rabbit, sauce till thin, and pour all into the pot; allow it to cook well done. Serve hot in deep dish together.

  8. I think I will skip the roadkill rabbit stew, thanks anyway tho. :-) It is sad that a few have not made it across the streets. Lots and lots of skunks have not made it either, they must not know to avoid those vehicles speeding down the streets at night.

We did see Ollie the Owl again yesterday. He was gone for a while but he comes back every once in a while. He does not like us stopping to say HI.

Jay is trying to get a photo of one of the hawks in flight, that should be a nice picture.
