Bringing Neighbors Together

A Good Idea by a Reader

Those of you that have read GlenbrookeNews since the beginning,  know I have struggled with how to address  it when a neighbor dies.   Some deaths  we hear about, others we don't.   It doesn't seem fair that some are mentioned and others not - the person was certainly were no less important or loved.   But I can only post what is submitted.

Last year we had a "In Memoriam" thread in the Forums.  The idea was for people to directly input information on the deceased and any Service details.  Family could also post  an obituary of their loved one  as a way to share their life.

The problem I have with death notices being located in the Forums is there are often numerous postings a day which pushes down threads quickly  until they are no longer visible.   I realize some people only check the website once a week and may never see these announcements.

Therefore,  GlenbrookeNews will incorporate a suggestion by a reader to  post death announcements on the left side of the front page.    We are community and that means being able to support our neighbors in time of sorrow - but we must learn of it before we can offer comfort.    When there is a known loss in the community, the above picture of candles will appear under the calendar on the front page with the available details.

We hope this is a more respectful way to honor those who have passed our way.
