Bringing Neighbors Together

New Library System at Arbour Lodge

We are very fortunate to have a nice book collection in the Arbour Lodge.  Because of generous donations from homeowners, there is quite a diverse selection.   The problem has been keeping it organized and knowing when new materials have arrived.

Staff have been working on the reorganization of the library and it appears there are two major changes.   First,   there are shelves that are dedicated to "NEW ADDITIONS" making it fast and simple to check for any recently donated books or  CDs.

Second, there will be a card inside each book.   When you check out or return a book or CD, simply  initial the inside  card.   The purpose is to have a good way to determine which books are read and how often.   That will help staff  when it is time to cull the books and they can then discard books that have shown little or no interest.

Initialing the book also helps those of us who can't remember if we had read a book by looking at its cover!

During this reorganization,  there are dozens of books that are available to to homeowners to keep in their own collections or  donate to your favorite charity.   Removal of these books will make room for more current selections.

Stop by the Arbour Lodge today and stock up on some reading material for these hot August days.

  1. Well now, I do take issue with homeowners keeping the books I have donated for their own collection or donating to their favorite charity. If and when I leave books at the library they are for this community only, otherwise I'll take them elsewhere. I'm hoping that what is meant by that comment will be books that are not read after a certain length of time using the card system. The card system is great, since more than once I have brought a book home and discovered that I've read it since I don't keep a list. Great idea and it did need to be cleaned up.

  2. You are correct, the books available for homeowners to keep or donate are the ones being culled from the shelves by staff to make room for more material. You may want to check if there are any that were pulled for give away that you might want back.

    LIBRARY UPDATE
We have begun the Project and you will see two new shelves labeled "NEW TO THE LIBRARY". These are books that have been newly donated. So look there first for a "Fresh Read" if you have already read thru the shelves. We are now accepting DVDs and CDs and you can find some on the "NEW TO THE LIBRARY" shelves.

We have begun to put checkout book plates in the books. When you return a book if you would just date your return than when we review the shelves we can see which books are being read and only recycle out those books that aren't being borrowed.

Mina is getting the Library two new containers for RETURNS and NEW SUBMISSIONS. Until the new containers arrive please place your DONATIONS in the basket and RETURNS in the box marked 'RETURNS". Please do not reshelve your returns. We want to check them in and make sure the are showing up active in our inventory.

At the end of each cycle we will place the books scheduled to be recycled out on the table in front of the shelves. Please help yourself to anything you want for your library. The books remaining will be donated to charities.

Again we thank all for your donations.............

  4. Darcie, thank you for a nicely written piece about our library. You do a great community service by highlighting good developments at Glenbrooke. This keeps a nice balance between what's wrong and what's right here. Keep it up - it brings me back to this website again and again!

  5. LIABRARY UPDATE:

Check out the NEW TO THE LIBRARY SHELVES. These two shelves have the latest submissions to our library. We also have LARGE PRINT, DVD'S AND CD'S and we hope to have some audio books soon.
Book plates are being attached to each item and if you would date the return of the item we can keep track of what is being actively used by Our Residents.
We thank all for your donations. We hope to keep Your Library full of new things for you to read and enjoy...and the shelves dusted too.
