Bringing Neighbors Together

Bocce Ball Open Play

By Ben Salak

Spending Saturday mornings with a group of Glenbrooke Neighbors playing a friendly game of Bocce is more fun than ever! I was able to put together a group of interested players at the Bocce Court to participate in the open play.

Because of the hot weather, we started to play around 10:00 A.M. Except for a few players; it was the first time for them to play the game of Bocce. Everyone told me how much they enjoyed the game and the interaction between players. It was just a friendly game, but it was competitive enough to provide excitement.

The members of the Singles Club indicated that they all want to come again to play depending on their weekend schedule. Since we started, there has been an average of 10 players coming to the Arbour Lodge court to play Bocce.

We begin playing at 9:00 A.M on Saturdays. As the weather cools down, I will adjust the start time to a later hour. The maximum players on each court are 8. If more than 16 players show up, we will rotate and have the extra players get in the next game. Everyone is welcome to join, even those who have not played Bocce before. It is an easy game to pick up. You don’t even have to be Italian to play!
