Food Bank Usage increase 35% – Can You Help?

Mayor Sophia Scherman hosts “Fill the Bus” to benefit
Elk Grove Food Bank Services
Elk Grove, CA – The first annual “Fill the Bus” takes place on Saturday, August 28. From
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. area residents and businesses will have an opportunity to “fill” the bus with
wholesome non-perishable food. Mayor Scherman and the Senior Center of Elk Grove are
teaming up for this one-day event to benefit the Elk Grove Food Bank Services.
Elk Grove Mayor Sophia Scherman came up with the idea of “Fill the Bus,” and plans to make
the fundraiser an annual event.
“The Food Bank has always struggled more in the summer as demand increases, while supplies
decrease, sometimes rather rapidly,” says, Executive Director, Marie Jachino. The food bank’s
client base has risen 35% per cent and more than one-third of them are children and seniors.
