GlenbrookeNews – Over 41,000 page views in 1st year!
On August 20, 2009 we launched GlenbrookeNews -our neighborhood newsletter/website. I's hard to believe the site is a year old!
Please help us celebrate this milestone on Saturday, August 14th at 6:00PM in the Arbour Lodge. Heck, we’re so excited we want to give EVERYONE that celebrated a birthday or anniversary last year a piece of cake and ice cream!
So which GlenbrookeNews story or features were most popular with our neighbors?
It is hard to know as some stories have been picked up by Google News or other websites and continue to get page views long after they have left the front page of the site. Such is the case with our top story "New HOA Laws to take effect in 2010" viewed 787 times. We set a new record for a single day on Wednesday August 4, 2010 with 325 page views. That day our total page views since beginning was 41,929!
For those that are curious, the list of stories with the number of page views is at the bottom of this post.
I believe when the page views are less than 100, it our neighbors reading - our target market. Remember, we only have 215 houses sold and of those many don't know of GlenbrookeNews or use the computer.
More important then the numbers, did we meet our goal of bringing neighbors together? Have we filled a need? Is our neighborhood better informed because GlenbrookeNews exists? You are the judge – please make comments and suggestions below and if you think it is helpful - tell your neighbors!
On a personal note, I know this 'purposeful hobby' has been beneficial to my continual challenges and recovery and for that I am grateful. I could not have made it through the year without the support and patience of Jim or of my friend and mentor, Doni Greenberg. Special, heartfelt thanks to Vickie Glaser for her editing and Norma Lee for amazing ability to keep us informed of local happenings. To all those that suggested stories, wrote articles or let us know of activities or events - Thank you!
Now come and enjoy some cake and ice cream on August 14th @ 6:00PM at the Lodge.
The remainder of this post is just frosting on the cake!
Following is the very first post to GlenbrookNews:
Welcome to first edition of the GlenbrookeNews!
We are so excited to have one, interactive place for all of our GlenbrookeNews. This website is designed with one purpose in mind; to bring neighbors together by sharing news, events, knowledge, ideas and resources.
Not only will you be able to find all the “happenings” of Glenbrooke- including the Arbour Lodge and Homeowners Association schedules and documents, but you will also have links to Elk Grove City Hall, Parks and Recreation, Senior Centers and any other organizations or agencies that are of interest to our residents.
We will have information on farmers markets, special events, movies (schedules and previews), weather, sections on food, travel, health and fitness, fun and games, quotes of the day, recipes, neighborhood voices, business and finance, bloggers, and a focus section where we get to know our neighbors better.
GlenbrookeNews will also have a forum section in the near future. That will be where residents can exchange ideas, advertise a car for sale, find someone to play scrabble or billiards or start a new group.
There is so much more planned. But this is YOUR GlenbrookeNews so tell us what you would like to see on this website. Obviously, the more people contributing the more interesting the site will be. So please, add your ideas below. If you see an event happening in town, or are celebrating a milestone, shoot us an email. We would like know about it.

Darcie & company,
Just as I rate my Netflix movies from 1* to 5 *****... you get 5*****.
Keep up the good work. It is part of my daily routine to check GLENBROOKE NEWS.
Joyce Byers
Darcy, you have created a real service to our community. I always check your website to find out what's going on in Glenbrooke - You keep us so well informed. Thanks for all your efforts. Kay McHugh
Congrats! Its hard to believe its been a year already
Congrats for sure! Amazing woman, where does she get the energy. It's not enough that she keeps this web site rolling, she's planning another event to get us all together. She would probably say it's just cake and ice cream, no big deal. Yea, sure! Ever get that together for 50+ people, it's a BIG deal! Didn't forget you Jim.....I know you had a big hand in this too, actually probably bigger than Darcie...... just couldn't resist that one!
OK.........I'm waiting Darcie for that email I know is coming. I've got you on the Spam list now.
All joking aside...........GREAT JOB!
I'd like to add my congratulations and thanks to Darcie and Jim. I believe that there will always be a need for this forum that is exactly what it was designed to be -- a place where we can share ideas and learn about the people and events in our community!
Bravo!
I concur with all the above!. How very lucky to have Darcie & Jim and their wonderful News.
Thanks to you both for this very extra special corner of the Glenbrooke Community!
"Isn't that special!" OK, I just borrowed that line from the Church Lady on Saturday Night Live. Even though I don't get to visit the site on a daily basis, I still find GlenbrookeNews a great source of information, not only about what's happening around Glenbrooke community, but also news and events around Elk Grove and surrounding areas.
Let me extend my heartfelt congratulations to Darcie and Jim, on a tremendous job well done.
Aaah, thanks everyone for the kind words. But it really is a team effort and we want it to be the neighborhood newsletter where everyone gets a voice.
How about things you would like to see on GlenbrookeNews or things you don't want on it? Most of the things on the website came from neighbors suggestions!
It's my birthday ( nothing big ) tomorrow so the cake works for me!
I promise I'll will read this site regularly from now on Darcie.
See ya!
