Board approves Pickleball group
The GCA Board of Director's approved Pickleball as the latest recognized group. In addition to approving the group, the Board also approved the purchase of nets and striping of the tennis courts. There can be up to four Pickleball courts on each tennis court. The striping will not affect the ability to use the courts for tennis. Rather, it will be adding another activity that will be able to use the court facilities.
The Association already owns a paint striping machine and staff will be responsible for the addition of the Pickleball lines.
So What the heck is Pickleball? It is somewhat a cross between tennis, badminton and ping- pong. Players use wiffle balls and a wooden short paddles. The group meets three times a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 8:00AM. Everyone is invited to come out and play, beginners are most welcome; it is an easy game to pick up and lessons will be provided.

OK.....the group meets at 8 a.m. three mornings a week. Now....say there are others that are still waiting for their caffeine to kick in and want to play a different time and day, but would need instructions, etc. Will that be available from the group? With advance notice of course. Or, if you already know how to play, can you just waltz out there and play with your partners if space is available?
I believe the Board also approved the purchase of paddles too. ?????
You could just go out to watch first if you wanted - saunter by with your first cup of coffee anytime before 10:00. You can get a pretty good guide to the rules of the game online - try Here for instance.
When I first tried the game, I borrowed a paddle and was given advice on strategy and tactics. I think it's easier to play doubles, so if you wanted to get up a game at another time, you'd probably want to find three more players. As we move into cooler weather, afternoons may be more appealing. In the scheduled times, players rotate out to give everyone a chance to play.
And it's my understanding that the HOA is buying not only paddles, but also nets and having lines painted on the court. See you there.
Thanks Jim. My thought was that some people may think that you must belong to a Group to take part in any of the scheduled activities and at the times posted. If I were maybe new to the community that would have been my first thoughts. That may be due to having each group approved by the BOD's with members listed, etc. Anything that we can do to improve communications with residents is a plus in my estimation.
