Why Should I Vote? or Could this Happen Here?

Ballott
By now, everyone (whose lot closed after June 11th) should have received their Glenbrooke Community Association Association (GCA) Board Election Ballots in the mail. It is easy to set them aside with the idea of "I will get to that later; 'why bother' or 'I don't know those people, why should I vote?"
Let's take the last excuse first. It is okay if you don't know the candidates personally; did you personally know the last council member, state representative, or presidential candidate you approved? If you don't know the candidates, click HERE to see their responses to questions asked by other homeowners. After reading them, you you will have a good idea of backgrounds and personal philosophies. Which two would you like to have a voice in representing your property interests and the management of our common assets?
"I will get later." While it is true we have until August 9, 2010 to have our ballots postmarked, why not take 5 minutes and get it in the mail today. If you are like me, the longer something hangs around, the more likely it is to get misplaced. Be sure to follow all the instructions and put the ballot in the smaller envelop, then in the mailing envelop and finally signing the outside of the mailing envelop. If these instructions are not followed, they will not be counted.

Who is spending your money?
Finally, "why bother?" You need to have a voice in who is responsible for spending YOUR money. We see these types of headlines daily:
Hand in the HOA cookie jar" "Bridgett Freeman stole more than $11,000 from the Westridge Homeowner's Association iand sentenced to six months in jail and three years probation, and was ordered to pay back $11,617.41. She said she was sorry.
Two people have been arrested in connection to a massive embezzlement scheme involving a former bookkeeper for the Fox Park Homeowners Association.
A former employee was sentenced to 10 years in prisonWednesday for stealing more than $700,000 from homeowners associations in metro Denver. Police soon arrested Chevarria who had worked for the Vista Management, which manages finances for more than 40 homeowners associations.
There are also many forums online that discuss the HOA problems from embezzlements to foreclosures on homes, bankruptcy, etc. Click here for an example.
Glenbrooke is a new and growing community. We can avoid these horror stories by being involved and electing competent Board members that will manage the business of the GCA wisely.
Now if you will excuse me, I have to go put my my ballot in the mail.

Darcie, could you post this on the "official" website? This is such good information....just too bad that there are so many residents who will not have access to this and the other article "Speak Your Piece".
