Bringing Neighbors Together

Board Candidate Helen McKinley-George

Editor’s note: All  Candidates have been invited to  submit their Candidates statement using the  five questions asked by  neighbors/readers.  Helen McKinley-George is the second to respond and continues this series on getting to know our candidates.  All statements are  also posted on navigational bar for review. 1) Why did you decide to run for the Board and what strengths/skills will you bring to the position?

My name is Helen McKinley-George. My husband Bill George and I have lived in Glenbrooke for 21 months. We moved here because I wanted to keep my husband and myself busy and meet and mingle with people just like us. Bill and I have only been married for 2 years. Our Anniversary was May 27. Although Bill didn't want to move from our other house, which I owned for 32 years, I take full responsibility for the move and have no regrets. I know a lot of the people in Glenbrooke as I try to keep busy and active with groups and gatherings. Those of you who may not know my name may recognize me by the three daschunds I have and try to walk as often as possible.    I signed up to run for the board because I am interested in this community and the people that live here.

2)   Are you willing to hold monthly town hall meetings with residents to hear their concerns?

I'm far from shy and demure and firmly believe in expressing my opinions and ideas. I have addressed problems we had in an orderly manner that were solved timely, however we were never notified of the decision.   I guess it was just if we don't say anything so it's okay. I didn't think that was right and would try and insure that decisions that were made, in a positive manner, were given to those who addressed them. How hard is it to say, we were wrong?

3) Do you feel you can publicly voice the interests of the residents and not be intimidated by the majority three Pulte employees?

I don't believe I would be intimidated by the Pulte Board Members. I would look forward to hearing the Board Member concerns also and working as a liaison between the residents and the Board Members.  Addressing a Town Hall meeting seems like a positive step and something I would not be against.

4) Have you reviewed the Association's finances, and do you think the assessments and funding for reserves are set at an appropriate level?

I have not reviewed the Association's finances. I have looked over the last finance papers that were received.  I retired last June with 35 years of State Service in the Accounting field. I am not a CPA but I do know how to balance a checkbook and how to budget. If this skill were necessary in anyway with a position on the Board I would gladly share it.

5) Thank you for your willingness to serve and the opportunity to get to know you better.  Is there anything else you would like readers to know about you?

In the nearly two years Bill and I have lived here we have made many wonderful friends and I can honestly say that we have more friends here than we had at our last house where I lived for 32 years. I signed up because the need was there. There weren't a whole lot of people willing to volunteer a little time for such a worth yet very much unappreciated position. I'm no different than all of you. I love living here and hope that life at Glenbrooke can only get better. If I can help in anyway than I will.

Respectfully submitted, Helen McKinley-George.
