Bringing Neighbors Together

Barking Dogs a Problem?

There have been recent complaints to Neighborhood Watch about barking dogs.    This really is NOT a neighborhood Watch issue.  There really isn’t anything they can do.  However, there are a number of steps you can  take if you are being disturbed by a dog constantly barking.

1.     Most important, the first step is to contact the owner and let them know their dog is barking and what hours.  Most likely they were gone and were not aware there was a problem.   Are the neighbors new?  The dog may just be getting used to the noise and new surroundings. Is the dog trying to alert to a problem (someone along the fence, etc)?   Please be courteous and try to work with your neighbor first.

2.     If the noise continues, fill out a concern form at the Lodge.  Riverside Management is responsible for enforcing the HOA rules, which included Section 8.07(a) Prohibition of Noxious Activities  …”No owner shall permit noise, including, but not limited to barking dogs…” and Section 8.04 Household Pets.

3.     If the problem is still not resolved, call Animal Care services at (916) 687-3023 or after hours call (916) 714-5115 and make a formal compliant to the City.  They will work  with  you and the owner providing a bark log.

Obviously, responsible dog owners will not allow their dogs to bark if they are aware there is a problem.

  1. Yes, please let me know if it is my dog bothering anybody. She does like to bark when somebody goes by and at the UPS guy cause she loves to get packages, she loves to open boxes. But I do try to limit her barks to just a couple and then if she doesn't stop I close the door. I have asked my neighbors right next to me and they say they are not bothered but if anybody else is, please let me know and I will do something more about it.

    Thanks

  2. I think many people are hesitant to ‘bother’ or ‘confront’ a neighbor. I agree with Kathy. Most owners feel it is very helpful to know what their pets are doing when they are away or if they are bothering anyone. We can correct a problem if we don't know it is happening.
