Bringing Neighbors Together

Saturday Social Group becomes MINGLE Group

We are excited to announce some changes to the informal Saturday Social club  and the existing MINGLE Group.   Effective February 26, 2010 the two groups have merged.  This  action provides  advantages to both groups.

First, as many of you know,  there has been an informal gathering of people each Saturday night (when  there is no special event) for almost a year.    The purpose was to welcome new people to the neighborhood and have a regular venue for socializing.    In addition, some people also  meet on Sunday afternoons at the Arbour Lodge to play cards, various games or visit over a glass of wine and snacks.

This  Social group was not  approved at the January Board Meeting  (The President stated it was "too vague").    Nevertheless, it has been an active group of residents that  use  the facilities and enjoys socializing with other residents.   During the last month there have been  between  25-56 neighbors get together on Saturday nights.       Erin  Gromley suggested  the Saturday Social club merge with the  MINGLE group; since the  MINGLE group was already a  Board approved group  and had similar  goals.

Second, the MINGLE group has  been inactive.  This merger will give  MINGLE members an opportunity to become involve in the community again and a process to plan activities of interest to Glenbrooke residents.

We appreciate Erin's willingness to  'think outside the box'  to help members access  the facilities  - whether it  is reserving the card room, using  the ballroom for a  Baked Potato Bar or having a BBQ  on the patio.    Residents will be able count on activities  happening  during the weekends and have a means of adding new events.

Third, all new MINGLE  activities will be listed  on  the Association Calendar and the Gazette and ALL residents of Glenbrooke are are encouraged to attend.

If you have an idea for either an ongoing activity  or a special event,  call Erin at 714-1010 or Darcie Gore at 647-6594.

  1. What are some social activities you would like to see offered?

  2. ??? 1. How about seeing if AJ can set up a "Wine Tasting" with cheeses, crackers, fruits & chocolate. Not a
pot-luck! With maybe some good, but less expensive wines.

    2. Trip to the April 10th Garden Show...Cal Expo....Limo, cars, bus, train?

    3. Watch our granddaughter play soccer....................................don't panic, just joking! ;-) In fact, I was
just looking at her schedule and it's every Sat. evening at 7:10 for ?? how long. Have to do some-
thing about that, interferring with our social life.

  3. Another idea I posted on the other web site that "might" be of interest here...of course the men might disagree, but they could always hold our purses and oversee the credit cards. The idea: A trip to Nordstrom's for a makeup redo and/or bra fittings. Bet we're all wearing the wrong size! Maybe even a Wonder Bra, men would probably like that idea and even hand over the credit cards. :-) As I mentioned on the other web site, when I mentioned this to Jack I got a big frown, but when I said maybe $ 300. vs $ 10,000. for a face lift I got a big smile......he was thinking about all that $$$$$ he had just saved.

  4. What a great group this is becoming, some playing cards, eating, laughing, telling jokes...you name it and it's ok, just have fun. Not only that, but Darcie has more ideas for activities than you can shake a stick at. Winery, Casino, BBQ and more I'm hearing to come. Her handicap (sorry Darcie if I used the wrong words) doesn't slow her down. Not sure I would have the energy or inclination to do it since I know it's a lot of work. Guess I could offer to help...MAYBE I will and.... MAYBE I won't! A little bribery might work, maybe a Starbucks! :-) We do need to get the word out to all our neighbors to come and join in the fun. I know, several play cards and if that's not your thing you may not come, but do like I do, go up there and harrass them. They haven't thrown me out yet. Taking a bottle of wine also helps!!!!

  5. Why can't we have Bingo games on Saturday nights? Is it because of $$ being involved? Must be another way to get around that. Thinking it might draw more of the newcomers. BTY, how was the Hot Dog BBQ...haven't heard. Maybe the warmer weather will help get more people out.
