Bringing Neighbors Together

An Old Fashion Hardware Store

The Photo Club took a trip to Placerville on Friday, February 19th.    The town, once known as "Hang Town" is rich with photographic opportunities.    Leo Plumley did some reconnaissance and suggested we not miss visiting Placerville Hardware Store.     He was right, we learned it is the oldest hardware store west of the Mississippi.   It has been in continuous operation for 152 years.

It wouldn’t surprise me if you asked for something from the 1800’s and they were able to locate it in the vast inventory that is crammed into every corner and hanging from the ceiling.  There were the nail bins, tools, farming implements, tack, pots and pans, and every kind of kitchen gadget; need a top piece for a coffee percolator?    One of the reasons for their success (even in this economy) besides the unique atmosphere, is they have a large number of items that appeal to women – including a Wedding Registry.

We would have spent another hour (and more money) in the store but it was time to meet the rest of the Photography Club for lunch at “Sweetie Pies.”

With the beautiful spring weather just around the corner, this is a wonderful destination for a day trip to enjoy the unique stores, lunch and scenery.
