Bringing Neighbors Together

How do you spell F-U-N?

Answer:  Brunch cooked by chef  Bob followed by attending  The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

On Sunday the 10th, a large group from Glenbrooke's Theater Go'ers met at the Arbour Lodge to enjoy an amazing brunch cooked by Bob Bacon.     The food was very good and when we enter the ballroom the tables were decorated with white posettias wrapped in green foil.  There  were placemats, silverware and even orange juice waiting  on the tables.   Thanks to Bob, Teri and volunteers for all their hard work.

An hour later, it was time to leave for the 24th Street Theater in Sacramento.    Housed in an old school Auditorium, the theater was an easy drive and provided free on-site  parking.

The play was funny and topical.  The actors gave strong performances and made the experience even more enjoyable by including members of the audience as participants in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Audience members eventually mis-spelled their words and were sent one by one back to their seat with a consolation prize of a box of fruit juice.

While all the actors were   talented, of special note was Tony Wichowski who played the nerdy William Baefee.  He managed to be offensive and lovable at the same time with a magical foot not to forget.    Christina Day played Olive Ostrovsky and surprised everyone when she belted out in song – a big voice from a tiny body.

If you did not get a chance to go seee  this play, it is well worth the ticket price and the short drive  - but you better hurry, the last show is January 31st.   Purchase tickets online at WWW.RUNAWAYSTAGE.COM or call (916) 207 –1226.

  1. What a terrific brunch Bob prepared and what a terrific romp the "25 Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee was. Lynda and I have attended theater all of our married lives and the 24th Street Theater production of this hillarious musical was Broadway quality in the quality of the direction, acting and the voices. What a terrific way to spend a Sunday. We are making plans to see Altar Boys and Curtains. Anyone want to join?

    • I enjoyed the show also, and was really impressed by the quality of the performances. I 'm looking forward to seeing more - please let us know when you are going to go...

  2. Wow how FUN does this sound. Am just now (1/16/10) reading about this event on the Glenbrooke News web site, and sorry to have missed this Fun event. Would not have been able to attend, but it was FUN reading about it.
My Sundays are taken up with Taking my MOM (83 yrs of age) to church, to Lunch, Errands & grocery shopping and a short visit. So could not have made it, but it sounded like FUN.
