Tell us about the Singles group
GlenbrookeNews asked Kathy Powell to tell us about the Glenbrooke Singles Group
The singles group is for the purpose of socialization and making new friends. Often single people moving to a new community don't know how to get started. The group has about 30 members.
We meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 5PM at the lodge. At these meetings we discuss events and members bring their ideas to the group. We have two standing events: We have a potluck social evening at a member's house once a month. Sometimes it is dinner items, and sometimes appitizers and desert. Everyone brings something, and whatever they want to drink. The host or hostess simply provides the house. Paper goods are paid for out of dues, as well as other items needed.
We also meet once a week for a brown bag lunch. This is every Thursday and 12.noon. In the summer, we meet under the rotunda in the rose garden, and in winter, we meet in the activities room at the lodge. This is a very relaxed time, and an easy way to get to know others. Everyone brings their own lunch.
We also plan special activities, which don't always get in the bulletin due to time constraints. Some of the other events we have done are going to the Harvest Festival in Sacramento, going to the theater and dinner, nature preserve outings, special parties for Christmas and Valentine's Day, attending the Scottish games art exhibits. For those who do not have e mail, they get the information by telephone or a post card. We welcome all those who would like to become a member.
