19th Annual Return of the Salmon is Saturday
I admit, we are spoiled by all that Northern California has to offer. So much so that on our recent Alaska cruise, there was little of interest in the over priced "shore excursions." We see Bald Eagles along the Sacramento River, can attend one of the largest Native American Pow Wows and watch the salmon return to their spawning grounds all on a weekend outing and for the cost of gas.
Lacated about 150 miles north of Elk grove is a great National Fish Hatchery. This Saturday, October 17th, the 19th annual Return of the Salmon Festival comes to Coleman National Fish Hatchery, with packed day of events.
If you have never seen the great leaping salmon and the hatchery operations you may want to plan a day trip to experience this amazing sight.
The festival will include information booths, an aquarium, children’s activities and displays of sporting equipment. A salmon bake is planned for 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. sponsored by the Anderson Rotary.
Take I-5 north to Anderson and park in the Wal-Mart Supercenter parking lot. There, a free shuttle will take you to the hatchery. For more info, call 365-8622.
Editor's note: we are new to the elk Grove/ Sacramento area and know there are hundreds of community events and traditions in this area - we just don't know of them. Please help us newbies to Glenbrooke discover all this area has to offer by making suggestions of places to visit and explore.
