Free community event: Herding Dog Trials
Editor's note: Jim's sister, Patti, competes in these Herding Dog Trials. Last year, two couples from Glenbrooke went to watch the dogs at work. The ranch is only a couple of miles from Glenbrooke and the event is informal and free to watch.
Have you ever seen herding dogs at work? They are amazing being able to listen to the different whistles of their owner and separate the designated sheep. You can see them work this weekend hearding sheep through an obstacles course and into the holding pens.
Don't forget to bring a lawn chair then relax and enjoy the talents of these incredible animals during a three day Dog Herding Trial, Saturday and Sunday and Monday (October 17th, 18th. and 19th)- just a few miles from Glenbrooke.
The Trial starts at 8 a.m. each day at Point Pleasant Ranch, 11555 Hein Rd. in Elk Grove. . Coffee and donuts are available in the mornings and a lunch is for sale on the weekend but you may want to pack a lunch or snacks if you go on Monday.
On Saturday, there will be 37 open runs and 8 nursery runs (dogs under 3 years old).
On Sunday there will have 15 open runs, followed by the TOP 10 dogs from
both Saturday and Sunday competing in what is called the DOUBLE LIFT FINALS . Patti recommends the Double Lift Finals on Sunday as the best spectator event.
Patti will be running on Monday when there is 6 nursery runs, followed by 26 PRO NOVICE runs (her class). She will run 4 times - twice with each dog.
