Bringing Neighbors Together

Time for Sanity Check

Editor' note: The discussion continues about proposed HOA Rules and Regulations  regarding guest policies.   There are a number of concerns to residents.     Rick Huff offers his thought below.  Originally posted on the message boards of www.ourglenbrooke.net.   It is printed here with permission from the author.

I guess it's time for another sanity check.  How is this rule to be enforced?  Arcommon sensee guests to be issued ankle bracelets when they visit?  What about the child or grandchild of a sick or infirm resident checking in on a daily basis?  I fully understand the spirit of the rule which is to keep someone other than a permitted health care resident under age 55 from moving in.  Could we please have some COMMON SENSE here?   And please, please would the 'management' be very careful and thoughtful in what you say.  Your words and actions in defining rules and regulations carry a lot of weight.  There is nothing wrong with saying "Let me check on that" and have a discussion with your peers.  We are a new and growing community and growing pains are to be expected.   The statute referred to in the CC&R's refers to 'temporary residency'.  A visitor is NOT a temporary resident.  They are a visitor.

(d) The covenants, conditions, and restrictions or other documents or written policy shall permit temporary residency, as a guest of a senior citizen or qualified permanent resident, by a person of less than 55 years of age for periods of time, not less than 60 days in any year, that are specified in the covenants,

  1. What about people you hire on a regular basis? House cleaners, law mowers (back yard), water delivery...they come "visit" on a regular basis, are they counted as your visitors? The same would be true of health care workers who come "visit" on a regular basis. We all better be careful here, even if you don't need it now, you might in the future and if they are limited to the number of visits that can mean a danger to your health care.

Again, all this came about because of just a few incidents that should have been handled at the time they happened by the permanent staff at the lodge. Is that NOT what we pay them for? All of this turmoil could have been avoided.
