Welcome Neighbors!

Welcome to the first edition of the Glenbrooke News!

We are so excited to have one interactive place for all of  Glenbrooke neighborhood  News.    This website is designed  to bring neighbors together by sharing news, events, knowledge, ideas and resources.

Not only will you be able to find all the “happenings” of Glenbrooke- including the Arbour Lodge  schedules and documents, but you will also have links to Elk Grove City Hall, Parks and Recreation, Senior Centers and any other organizations or agencies that are of interest to our residents.

We will have information on farmers markets, special events, movies (schedules and previews), weather, sections on food, travel, health and fitness, fun and games, quotes of the day, recipes, neighborhood voices, business and finance, bloggers, and a focus section where we get to know our neighbors better.

Glenbrooke News will also have a forum section in the near future.  That will be where residents can exchange ideas, advertise a car for sale, find someone to play scrabble or billiards or start a new group.

There is so much more planned.  But this is YOUR Glenbrooke News so tell us what you would like to see on this website.  Obviously, the more people contributing the more  interesting the site will be.  So please, add your ideas below.  If you see an event happening in town, or are celebrating a milestone, shoot us an email at newsofglenbrooke@gmail.com.  We would love to hear from you.

  3. Very Impressive! Thanks for all the hard work..we love it.

  4. Wow, the website looks great! I am so looking forward to getting to know my neighbors before I actually move there.

  5. Looks like this will be a wonderful addition to our community
What an opportunity to give and receive information

  6. Great site Darcie and Jim, Thanks for your hard work!

  7. This is quite a nice-looking website. Feels much more personal and friendly than the official Glenbrooke website.

    Thank you for building it.

  8. Thanks everyone. We do think it will be a nice addition to include a number of features that the official site is not able carry ( due to HOA and governance policies). I think the two sites should compliment each other nicely.

Jim is putting a "favorite links"page up now. Thanks to Norma for suggestion the Elk Grove Online coupon page.
Bart has suggested a few he is going to email to us; so please, if you have favorite sites let us know. We want to make it as useful and friendly as possible. .

  9. I think the website looks great too. I notice in the replies there is a blank box next to the name of the person(s) that replied. Is this for a photo?
Maybe when you are out taking photos of the dogs for the lost dog book you can take some of the people so we can see who we are talking with.
Or if we can send a photo in to upload in that spot I could do that too. Of course the photo I use is about 10 years and 50 lbs lighter. :-)
Thanks for all you do for us to keep us informed and bring us together.

    • You are right - the box holds a small image, known as an avatar, or even better, a gravatar (global avatar). If you have an image you'd like to use on this (and many other sites), you can go to

      http://en.gravatar.com/site/signup

and get a link that will allow you to upload an image and associate that with your email address.

It's a pretty straightforward process, but if you try it and have any difficulties, feel free to email me directly & I'll see if I can help you navigate the process.

  10. WOW My time is limited right now so this site is greatly appreciated. It is easier to navigate and the information provided are things I need to access but did not have the time so did without. Thank you for all your work and time invested. Although I hate to have my picture taken I like the idea of pictures with comments so I can put a face with the name. I wish we could put a face, name and address together.

  11. Welcome everyone, such a kind reception for this work in progress (blush)

Penny, we would be happy to assist you or anyone else who would like a picture to post (called avatar). We will have cameras over at the Rose Garden on Monday at 10:30 - just come on over and we will get a picture.

As far as linking address with names, I really want this site to be a safe comfortable neighborhood site. While we have neighbors 'register" the first time they post on forums or comment on an article. This prevents spam and only allows posts from people approved. However, the site is open for others read so we are protective of personal information.

On the other hnd, the HOA site is only accessible to HOA members and so can post that information in the residet's Directory. It is so handy at it alllows you to sort by letters of first names or last names.

Agin, welcome everyone; grab a cup of coffee and poke around the site. This is the RESIDENTS site, so explore, comment, use the forums, submit an article or news piece or mail suggestions (newsofglenbrooke@gmail.com) ENJOY.
    Darcie

  12. Darcie...
I made an earlier comment that this web site was great but this web site gets better and better every time I visit it. More and more valuable information is being included. Darcie, you have and are doing a very professional job and the information is valuable to all of Glenbrook Residents. Thanks again. Sandy
